Capcom has re-released the popular arcade fighting game, Street Fighter II, in a brand new SNES cartridge in collaboration with Iam8bit in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the series. But there seems to an issue as the company warns that the cartridge can cause SNES console to overheat and catch fire.

The Street Fighter II 30th anniversary edition is retailing for a price of $100 per piece and the company is only selling 5,500 units. The cartridges come in two variants — Blanka Glow-in-the-Dark Green cartridge and Opaque Ryu Headband Red — which will be distributed at random. While the availability of the game is great news for all those who are fans and still have a compatible SNES console to run it, the warning in fine print doesn’t really fall in favor of the buyers. The price tag goes to show that the cartridge is purely a collector’s item as it’s available at $20 more than a SNES Classic which includes over 20 games including Street Fighter II Turbo. “Use of this reproduction game cartridge (the “Product”) on the SNES gaming hardware may cause the SNES console to overheat or catch fire,” reads the fine print warning of the product. “The SNES hardware is deemed a vintage collectible, so please exercise extreme caution when using the Product and make sure there is fire extinguishment equipment nearby. Use of the Product is at the sole risk of the user.” So, only and only if, you’re either looking for a collectible or are ready to face the wrath of an overheating console, then splurge away. The ‘legacy’ cartridge which will also have some retro pack-in surprises is available for pre-order and will start shipping in late November.
