Digital India Initiative
Paytm has gone big on travel and has noted that the growth in that sector has been heartening. The brand noted that while their bus booking venture has already broken even, their flight bookings have grown 4x month on month since they began operations in May. Their Sr. VP Kiran Vasireddy observed, With the partnership with IRCTC, Paytm is thus hoping to become the largest travel booking destination in the country. This gives more options to users while choosing a platform for booking their train tickets, where other players have existed before.
Advantage: Users
An average user perhaps never had as many options as he does now with regards to booking a train ticket. Where there was only IRCTC’s own website before, there are now several. IRCTC had come in with a lot of criticism over the way their website behaved and bookings were handled, which led to a major upgrade of their portal. Next, other Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) were allowed to use IRCTC’s database to offer railway bookings. This gave additional choices to users who could now cherry-pick offers and deals that suited them the best, while booking. Paytm will undoubtedly look to lure more users thanks to this partnership, with their robust record of offers.
How to Book via Paytm
At the time of writing, the Android app was still not updated to reflected the said changes. However, heading over to paytm.com showed that the IRCTC update was added. All a user has to do is click the Trains icon and start searching for your origin and destination cities as well as the date of travel. Once you do that, it will then show you the list of trains available but to see the available number of seats, you will have to click on Show Availability. Next, select the class of coach and fill in your details to proceed with payment. The payment page has the default Promo Code option where you can expect to get some deals in the near future. Even though there is also a section which tells you to keep your IRCTC login id/pwd handy, Paytm’s own website is capable of making the booking and accept payment via your digital wallet or through your bank’s netbanking/credit card payment gateway.
