Like any other Chrome extension, you can access these right next to the address bar. And whenever you need to play/pause the timer, you need to click on the icon, and that’s about it. Apart from letting you track your time efficiently, some of these apps also let you see a detailed summary on the main dashboard. And that is a huge plus. Besides that, some Chrome extensions also let you block a chunk of your day for you to focus on a single task at hand. If you are looking to manage your time better, we have a few Chrome extensions that will help you with time tracking. Let’s get going.
1. Timer 25: The Minimalist Timer
As suggestive of its name, Timer 25 is a simple timer that lets you time box. It allows you 25 minutes for an activity. Then, all you need to do is click on the extension icon at the top to start your work. It’s a no-frills extension, meaning there are no labels or text boxes to add descriptions or text. It’s a simple countdown timer, and that’s about it. It performs its duties to the T, and if you are someone who struggles to focus, this simple time management technique can help you a great deal. Once started, the remaining time is displayed on top of the icon. Once the time runs out, it displays a notification at the bottom. At the same time, you can change the default time by typing Timer on the address bar, press Tab and then add the required time. Get Timer 25
2. Simple Time Tracker
If you want to track time in a more detailed manner without going into the hassle of maintaining (or paying for) a parent app, then the Simple Time Tracker is the extension for you. It stands right by its name and lets you jot down your time in a simple yet efficient manner. You begin by creating a list of your tasks and projects. Once down, all you need to do is click on the Play button next to a particular task to start the timer. Simple, right? Naturally, Simple Time Tracker lets you delete or reset a particular timer. However, there is no option to add sub-tasks. Nevertheless, it does its job as advertised and lets you track your time without going through any complexities. Furthermore, there’s a nifty Export All button which exports your time into an excel format. Get Simple Time Tracker
3. Clockify Time Tracker
Clockify is a well-known name in the world of time tracking. The best part is that you can access it both online as well through its phone or PC apps. And yes, it has a handy Chrome extension as well. Unlike the ones above, you will need to sign up to use the services. Clockify’s Chrome extension is not independent, and you’ll need to create the projects and tasks on the main dashboard before using the extension. Thankfully, navigating through the dashboard is easy and doesn’t require much effort. Once all the tasks & projects have been added, you can do the rest through the extension. So again, it’s a simple process. It displays your tasks and projects. You just need to hit the Play button. You can also create a task on the spot, and this is certainly a time-saving process. In addition, it has a nifty Refresh button at the top, which refreshes the content, just in case you have added anything through the main dashboard. Clockify, in general, has plenty of integrations, including Basecamp and Asana. Furthermore, if you are a freelancer, you can also add billable hours. The timings sync in real-time across the apps, and that is a huge advantage. It’s a free app with unlimited tracking. However, if you want some additional features, you can subscribe to the paid bundles. Paid plans start at $3.99 per user per month. Get Clockify Time Tracker
4. actiTIME
Another time management app with a dedicated Chrome extension is actiTIME. Here too, you will have to create an account before using the extension. Once you have added all your tasks and projects, the same will be reflected on the extension. We loved actiTIMER because it alerts you when it detects you are not tracking your time. It can be a tad annoying at times, but alerts such as these make sure that your time is well accounted for. Similar to Clockify, most of the project-related tasks are easily managed via the online dashboard. And the good news is that the essential options are just a few clicks away. For instance, you can search for tasks and projects on the extension itself. Plus, you can always add projects or tasks in real-time. actiTIME is free and lets you collab with up to 3 people. 5. TrackingTime
Last but not least, we have Tracking Time. It’s a cross-platform app with apps for Macs, Windows, Android as well as iPhone. You begin by creating different projects, tasks, and sub-tasks on the web app. And once done, you can add the timings straight from the extension. The extension is pretty straightforward. However, it does have a few limitations. For example, the extension will only display the tasks that have been started in the past. If that’s a compromise you are willing to make, using TrackingTime is easy. Besides that, it integrates quite a few apps including Basecamp. For instance, you can see a tiny clock next to any Basecamp To-Do. Just click on it and the required task will be added right away. Do note that the time sync is not in real-time at times, and you may need to refresh the extension if you have tweaked the same on the main dashboard. That aside, TrackingTime is easy to use. The basic version is free to use, but you can always upgrade to the paid version for a bigger set of features. Get TrackingTime
Tick Tick Tick
If you often switch between several different tasks in a day, tracking your time will help you better understand your work and help manage it better. First, you need to create a rough draft of how you spend most of the day, and things will eventually fall into place as you add your time. Out of the above apps, Clockify will prove to be a clever pick since it offers a simple interface, and at the same time, it lets you go about your job with minimum fuss.
