However, at the end of the day, it’s still a budget device and therefore, lacks the typical Samsung features like Always On Display (AOD) or backlit buttons. Well, we can’t do much about the hardware buttons, but something can definitely be done about the Always On Display. As you already might know, Samsung’s AOD feature lights only some part of the screen by having a minimal impact on the battery life. Since it’s an AMOLED-only feature, it’s one of the reasons that the Galaxy On7 Prime lacks this feature aside from the price factor. However, worry not, we have found a nifty workaround, through which you can get the Always On Display on your Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime without root.
1. Samsung’s Always On Display
Way back in October 2017, the good people at XDA cloned Samsung’s Always On Display feature to work on other Samsung phones having an AMOLED screen and running Android Nougat. The good thing about this method is that it doesn’t need any special ADB permissions nor does it require you to root your Android phone. As luck would have it, the app produces great results and it can easily be forced to work on the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime. Since the app is under active development, you can expect a few minor bugs. However, the developer has promised that they would be addressed over time. Step 1: Install the apk files necessary for this feature to work. First is the standard Always On Display file and the second is the Always On Display Plugin Service. Install the Always On Display file first and then the plugin. Step 2: Navigate to the Display Settings on your Galaxy On7 Prime and scroll down. You’ll either find the AOD as a separate option or you’ll find it lurking under the Looking for something else banner. Now, all you have to do is enable the feature and grant the necessary Android permissions. That’s it! Just lock the device to see the effect come into play.
Settings and Customization
As far as customization is concerned, you can select the content that you’d like to see on the screen. Plus, you can also choose the clock face or the color as per your preference. Another good thing about this app is that the fingerprint sensor works flawlessly. I have set in such a way that a simple tap on the sensor wakes the device while a long press opens Google assistant. The only downside to this app is that the battery consumption is a tad high. That’s when the third-party app comes into play.
2. Glance Plus
The third-party app on our list is the Glance Plus app. This app has been on the Play Store for a long time and sports a number of customization hacks. Step 1: As soon as you install Glance Plus, it’ll ask for the necessary Android permissions needed to set up AOD. Step 2: Once done, enable the AOD feature. Another setting you need to enable is the Auto start on boot option. To enable it, head over to Other settings and toggle the switch to On. Once done, all you need to do is lock your device. The standby clock will come into action seconds after the display is off.
Settings and Customization
Similar to the above app, Glance Plus lets you customize the Always On Display screen as per your choice. For one, you can set the clock style or enable the weather information to be displayed, among others. Moreover, it even changes its position randomly. Unlike the native Always On Display, the unlocking part is a tad different. You’d have to tap once on the power button and then unlock the phone.
Get the Most Out of Your Galaxy On7 Prime
Device displays have been a major strength of Samsung phones and the one on the Galaxy On7 Prime is also no different. It has the same level of punch with a sharp display and an accurate color reproduction. So, add another jewel to your phone’s crown with the Always On Display feature. While the Play store has a number of apps, which lets you have the Always On Display feature, the two mentioned above produced the best results.
