All you need to do is say ‘Okay Google remind me’ followed by what you need to be reminded of along with time or location. Google Assistant will intimate you at the exact time (or place) by sending a notification on your device. However, it uses the default notification sound of your device, which usually is a low tone not meant for important things like reminders. I have missed Google Assistant reminders many times due to this particular reason. Here I shall tell you how to change the Assistant reminder tone to any sound of your choice so that you don’t miss any reminders. Let’s get started!

Change Reminder Sound

To do so, follow these steps: Step 1: Launch the Google app on your device and tap on the More option present at the bottom-right corner. Step 2: Tap on Settings followed by Notifications. Step 3: Under Notifications, tap on Discover. Step 4: Here, tap on Ringtone under Priority notifications and pick a tone of your choice. For devices running Android 8.0 Oreo and above, you will not find the Ringtone option or Priority notifications. Instead, you will have the ‘Get notified about’ label. Under that, tap on Reminders. Then tap on Sound and choose a tone of your liking. You can also enable vibration. Similarly, you can change notification for other categories on phones running Android 9.0 Pie update.

Edit Reminders

To view or edit your existing reminders, you can either tell Assistant or check them yourself. Here are the steps for both.

Using Assistant

To do so, launch Google Assistant and ask it to show your reminders. You can use commands like what are my reminders, show me my reminders, what’s my next reminder, etc.

Using Settings

With the help of settings, you can view all your previous and current reminders. Here’s how to check it. Step 1: Open the Google app and tap on the More option at the bottom. Step 2: Tap on Settings followed by the Settings option present under Google Assistant. Step 3: Go to the Services tab and tap on Reminders. Step 4: Here you will find all the reminders. Tap on any reminder to edit its name, time, frequency, etc. You can even delete a reminder.

Set Reminders on Desktop

At times, while working on your computer you might want to make a quick note of something to be done later. Usually, you will pick up your phone and tell Assistant to create a reminder. However, you can easily create reminders on your computer as well. Once you do so, the reminder will appear on your phone as well. To create a reminder from a desktop, follow these steps: Step 1: Launch the Google Chrome browser. Step 2: Type the query set a reminder or remind me in the address bar and press Enter. Step 3: You will get a Set a reminder box. Enter the necessary details like title, date, time, etc. Then click on the ‘Remind me on Google Now’ link. That’s it. To verify whether the reminder has been set or not, ask Assistant on your device about your reminders. Then you can edit or delete the reminder from your phone.

View Assistant Reminders on PC

You can view, edit, and delete Assistant reminders on your desktop as well. Since the Assistant reminders are linked with Google Calendar, you will have to use that. For that, follow these steps: Step 1: Launch Google Calendar using any browser on your computer. Step 2: Sign in with your Google account. Step 3: On the Calendar, click on the reminder that you want to edit or delete. Step 4: A pop-up window will open. Tap on the Edit or Delete icon to perform the required action. You can also mark the reminder as done if you don’t want Google Assistant to remind you of it again.

Google, You Can Do It

Google still needs to do a lot more when it comes to reminders and other apps. Sure, Assistant integration is important, but it would be nice to have a dedicated reminder app with a handful of features. For instance, currently Assistant lacks features such as duplicating reminders, color codes, link support and more. Recently, Google launched a dedicated task management app — Google Tasks. Being entirely different from Google Keep, it was confused to be an app to set reminders. However, the truth is that new Google Tasks app lacks reminders and doesn’t integrate with Google Assistant or Calendar either. Hopefully this year Google shall release a dedicated app for reminders.
