Power cables here, USB cables there and ethernet cables in some other place. Transmitting power and data to and from our devices is quite necessary, but since we do not live in a totally wireless world these are a necessary evil. So the question arises how do we tame this mangled mess of cables? Well, today we have some simple tips for helping you to get a grip on this madness. Read on.
1. Bread Ties
Yes guys, you read it right. I am suggesting that you use your bread ties as cable management tools. Bread ties are particularly good for labelling cables. This is especially helpful if you have multiple cables for a similar purpose.
2. Twist Ties
Do you remember when you first bought your smartphone and the micro USB cable came wrapped up all nicely with a twist tie around it and wrapped in plastic. Don’t throw those away next time because you can use it to organize cables you don’t regularly use. You might not want to use this technique for cables you are constantly using because you will have to go through the process of unwrapping them each time you want to use them.
3. Old Credit Cards + Double-Sided Tape
You can cut slots in your old credit cards and use them to hold up cables that you use regularly and don’t want to fall off the side of your desk. Simply take an old credit card and cut slots to accommodate your charging cables. The slots I used for my version were around 5mm wide. After cutting the slots you can then take a couple of pieces of double sided tape and mount the card to the side of your desk.
4. Binder Clips
Binder clips can also be used to keep cables from falling. If you have an object that you can attach the binder clip to, you can then route the cables through the metal part in order to hold them up.
5. Velcro Strips
This may be a cable management solution you are already familiar with. You can use these velcro strips to group cables together. Alternatively you can use them in place of twist ties to store cables you don’t use regularly. These are kind of a must have in the realm of cable management.
